E-Justice and Governance

Special Workshop

XXVI World Congress of Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy

21-27 July 2013

Campus of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil

Coordinators: José Renato Gaziero Cella, Fernando Galindo Ayuda, Orides Mezzaroba, Aires José Rover, Cesar Antonio Serbena

The development of new Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) provided a real revolution in the administration of Justice and Governance in general. Both the Executive and the Judiciary, worldwide, seek to use the tools of the new ICTs to improve their performance and offer their services to citizens with more agility, speed and transparency. Likewise, the new ICTs enable organizations to be administered with more rationality, producing a saving of financial resources and making its operation closer to its goals. Tasks that demanded before a human operator can now be performed automatically by a computer system. Specifically we propose with this Workshop to discuss the following questions on E-Justice and Governance:

  • E-participation: How citizens can improve their participation on public questions and public decisions via internet and via other ways, e.g., social networks (facebook, twitter, google, etc)?
  • Transparence: How the public administrators can be more transparent in the relationship with the society? How the citizens can better control the action of public actors, e.g, the control of the public budget?
  • Information and Comunication Technologies (ICTs) on Courts and Law: new developments in ICTs and Law; how ICTs can make legal decision-making better and faster?
  • Software and Hardware applied to Governance and Administration of Courts: informatics skills to manage and to improve Jurismetrics, Judicial Data and Governance Data.

The list above is not exclusive. The workshop will discuss also other topics and issues related to that mentionated. We invite researchers to submit papers and abstracts on these themes.

Participants will be selected by blind review of abstracts or by invitation.
